1. Benin Floods. This has been a very under reported story, but half of the small nation of Benin is currently under water, the rains are still pelting down, and there have been 60 deaths and around 100 000 displaced.

2. Uganda Lazy? The latest Uganda Population Report released this week showed that Uganda has the lowest worker productivity in the East African Community, with 6 Ugandans employed to do the job of 1 Kenyan.

3. South Africa resists urge to enter currency war. As the rest of the world begins to position themselves in the battle to the bottom for currency competitiveness, the rigidity of the monetary authorities in South Africa mean that the Rand will appreciate and inflation may increase.

4. Obiang UNESCO prize postponed. The controversial UNESCO Obiang-Nguema Mbasogo International Prize for Research in Life Sciences has after severe Western pressure been put on hold. In taking the decision, there was a a divide between Western European and American influence against African influence, thus rendering the award on hold until consensus is met on the issue.
